Every fast-food chain has a website at this point, obviously. We pretty much know what to expect when we visit them: photos and info on all the menu offerings, a location finder, nutritional data, etc. But did you know that some chains also run other sub-websites, which in some cases are pretty bizarre?

You Won't Believe These Bizarre Fast-Food Chain Websites (Slideshow)

Chains have plenty of reasons to set up alternate websites. Some are intended to coincide with a special promotion or marketing strategy, others are geared toward a specific demographic that they’re trying to reach. For the former approach, Burger King is best-known, and for the latter it’s McDonald’s, with sites you’ll read about below.

While it might seem like multiple fast food chain websites are unnecessary, they’re actually pretty popular, and are a really good resource, attracting nearly 3 million unique visitors in May 2014, according to For example, provides details on every single menu item, discusses food quality and sourcing, goes over the history of the company and corporate information, provides resources to those looking for employment there, has a location finder and contact information, and provides a bunch of other resources and information that you won’t get by just walking into your local outpost.

But head to the main page’s bottom corner and you’ll find a little section that takes you to other McDonald’s websites, geared toward demographic groups like tweens ( “Kids rule! We know being a kid is all about meeting up with friends, playing favorite games, and enjoying great food.”) and Latinos ( “Join us in promoting the Latin spirit with music, futbol, and family fun”). And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

So read on to learn about 8 websites that are affiliated with fast food chains (including one that isn’t, but probably should be), and prepare to be surprised by some of the strange stuff lurking on the internet.

Subservient Chicken

This site was originally launched in 2004, and featured nothing but a man in a chicken suit who responded to about 300 simple typed commands by seeming to do them in real time. It was launched in order to promote the BK Tendercrisp chicken sandwich, and was brought back earlier this year in a slightly more meme-friendly format.

Subway Kids

Yes, Subway has a website devoted entirely to kids, for some reason. It primarily serves to promote the Subway FreshFit Kids line, and they’re partnered with Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy to give away backpacks for every kids meal served. The actual kid’s content is only one page; the whole site looks like it was put together in an afternoon.

9 Southern fast-food chains that should come to every state

Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits offers classic Southern food like mac and cheese and biscuits.

When it comes to Southern fast-food chains, no establishment is as undeniably Southern as Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits. While the name itself may tell you everything you need to know about this Southern establishment, you'll really have to experience it for yourself to know what the hullabaloo is really about.

For a classic Bojangles' experience, you have to order the chicken fingers, a country ham biscuit, or a piece or two of their crunchy, salty fried chicken.

Cook Out is a great value for the money, and it has some of the best fast-food burgers you'll find in the country.

I've written previously about my love and devotion for Cook Out — and I still have yet to find a fast-food chain with the same amazing quality and low prices. For around $5, you can get a tray with a choice of a burger, chicken tenders, pulled pork sandwich, and more, plus a drink and your choice of side.

At Cook Out, the more you order, the better the deal. Burgers go up to a "huge" size and come in a variety of signature styles ranging from barbecue to burgers topped with homemade chili and slaw.

Sides also aren't limited to your standard fries or salad. At Cook Out, sides include chicken nuggets, wraps, onion rings, quesadillas, and even a corn dog. Not to mention, the fast-food chain also serves up more than 40 flavors of milkshakes that are so thick and creamy, you'll probably need a spoon to eat them.

Chick-fil-A is now found in almost every state, but it should be in all 50.

While Chick-fil-A is steadily expanding to new locations across the country and can now be found in 47 states as well as Washington, DC, it will perhaps always be regarded as a distinctly "Southern" chain. The fast-food favorite, which is headquartered in Atlanta, serves its signature chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and more Monday through Saturday.

Although the restaurant is closed for one whole day every week, it's been named America's most beloved fast-food chain.

Biscuitville is one of the best Southern breakfast spots.

Nothing says breakfast in the South like an old-fashioned biscuit breakfast sandwich. At Biscuitville, you're not limited to the standard sausage or bacon, egg, and cheese.

With Southern specialties like spicy chicken and honey biscuits, fried pork chop biscuits, fried steak biscuits, grits, and — of course — biscuits and gravy, you're never at a loss for the perfect Southern breakfast.

Mellow Mushroom has unique pizza flavors you won't find at Dominos or other chains.

This groovy pizza chain is a Southern staple. The pizza is high-quality and incredibly delicious. A personal favorite at Mellow Mushroom is the Buffalo chicken pizza topped with a creamy blue cheese swirl or the holy shiitake pie.

While the ྂs-themed pizza chain does have a handful of restaurants across the country in New Jersey, Arizona, and throughout the Midwest, a majority of Mellow Mushroom locations are concentrated in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Waffle House is famous for being open 24 hours per day and is a Southern staple.

Waffle House is known for its 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year hours, and for being an unofficial measure for just how bad a tropical storm or hurricane really is, as most locations will remain open even in inclement weather.

This Southern diner may be most well-known for its breakfast, but the joint also serves up sandwiches, burgers, melts, and even sirloin steaks.

Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers gives other chicken chains a run for their money.

When it comes to delicious Southern fast food, sometimes it's OK to keep things inside the box — the "box combo," that is. As a Southern-born establishment dedicated to all things chicken fingers, Raising Cane's was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and has since spread to locations in North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, Arizona, and more, with just one Northern location in Boston, Massachusetts.

The chain's chicken fingers also come with coleslaw, Texas toast, and crispy crinkle-cut fries.

Zaxby's is one underrated Southern fast-food chain we wished we saw more of up north.

Zaxby's was a go-to stop during my time in North Carolina for one of its famous wings. Not only does this Southern spot offer Buffalo wings that will tickle your taste buds, but they also have a number of delicious sides, sandwiches, and chicken fingers that will have you coming back for more.

Oh, and did I mention that some of their sandwiches come on Texas toast?

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q serves up classic North Carolina barbecue, fast-food style.

This North Carolina BBQ chain serves up classic Southern favorites like pulled-pork sandwiches, fried shrimp, barbecue chicken, and all the fixings.

At Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q, a chicken platter comes with your choice of either light or dark meat, coleslaw, potato salad, and hush puppies. Wash it all down with some sweet tea, and don't forget a slice of pecan pie.

Liz Cheney has no issue with restrictive voting laws stemming from Trump's false claims of election fraud

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) doesn't see a connection between former President Donald Trump falsely claiming the 2020 presidential election was rigged and GOP legislators across the United States passing restrictive voting laws. Earlier this month, Cheney was ousted from her Republican leadership position after repeatedly criticizing Trump and his claims, saying he was hurting democracy. During an interview with Axios on HBO that aired Sunday, her assertion that there is no link between Trump and the voting laws was met with pushback from journalist Jonathan Swan, who reminded Cheney that last month, Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan (R) said Rudy Giuliani's false allegations of election fraud motivated lawmakers in his state to pass a law that makes it harder for voters to request and drop off absentee ballots and limits ballot drop boxes. "I think everybody should want a situation and a system where people who ought to be able to vote and have the right to vote can vote, and people who don't shouldn't," Cheney responded. Swan interjected, asking Cheney what problems Georgia, Texas, and Florida are trying to solve, since there hasn't been any evidence of widespread voter fraud. Each state is different with its own laws, Cheney said, and "what we can agree on is that what is happening right now is really dangerous." Cheney told Swan she will think about "sitting on the inaugural platform in January of 2001, watching Al Gore. . I'm sure he didn't think he had lost. We had fought this politically very, very intense battle. And he conceded. He did the right thing for this nation. That is one of the one of the big differences between that and what we're dealing with now and the danger of Donald Trump today." Dad of 4-Year-Old Slain in Dallas Apologizes for Leaving Kids

via Trevor GernonThe father of the 4-year-old boy kidnapped from his bed and dumped dead on a Dallas street says he will never forgive himself for leaving his son and his twin brother with a friend while he skipped town under a cloud of legal problems.Trevor Gernon released a recorded statement on his sister’s YouTube account both apologizing for not taking care of his son Cash and asking the public not to be too hard on him.Gernon said that when he moved to Dallas, he moved in with an old friend, Monica Sherrod, and when he moved back to Houston “after an unsuccessful job hunt amongst other things,” he decided they would be better off with her.“I felt it was in the boys’ best interest to not disrupt their routine,” he said of Cash and his brother, Carter, who was not harmed and is now with his mother.“They were comfortable, they were around other kids, and from what it appeared, Monica was a trustworthy person. This choice I made with best of intentions has resulted in a most horrific outcome.”On May 15, an intruder was caught on a baby monitor camera sneaking into Cash and Carter’s bedroom at Sherrod’s home and lifting the still-sleeping boy from his bed.Two hours later, a passer-by found the child’s body tossed on the street. Police said he had been stabbed.Darriynn Brown, 18, who has some nebulous ties to Sherrod’s family, was charged with kidnapping and burglary, but police are waiting for the results of forensic tests to make a decision on murder charges. Investigators have not released a motive, and Brown’s mother has said she believes her son is being framed.Sherrod told reporters that Gernon left town after being ordered by a court into rehab. CrimeOnline obtained court records showing several outstanding charges against Gernon in Harris County.Gernon referenced his legal issues, saying in the recording, “I have to fear for my freedom, as it is the goal of some to see me go to jail rather than grieve the loss of my little boy.” He did not disclose his location or legal status.Crying at times, he did take responsibility for failing to protect the twins.“I have paid the most ultimate and painful price for my poor judgment and I have to live with this devastation every single day,” he said.“I will never forgive myself. If I could, I would go back and do everything different. This is a nightmare that doesn’t go away once I open my eyes in the morning. We just don’t understand how this could happen to such a bright and cheerful kid.”Addressing the boys’ mother, Melinda Seagroves, he added, “I am so sorry that I failed to keep him safe. That is my job as his dad and I was not able to do that and I’m sorry.”As The Daily Beast reported, Gernon has racked up a string of arrests over the years, serving 68 days in county lockup for a 2018 assault on his father during an argument over a credit-card bill. The Strange New Turn in the Case of 4-Year-Old Cash GernonFollowing his indictment on felony drug possession charges last November, he failed to appear for a March 29, 2021, hearing and thus forfeited a $10,000 bond payment. There is now an open warrant out for his arrest.Johnny Flanagan, whose son gave Gernon a job at his shop until they had a falling-out, told The Daily Beast: “He’s one of these guys that kind of goes whichever way the wind blows, you know, and he’ll do good for several months and then do bad for several months and you know, just up and disappear.”In the recording, Gernon pleaded for mercy in the court of public opinion.“I’m barely getting through a day that doesn’t take me to a dark place,” he said. “I hope you all could understand how fragile we all are and how quickly things can turn upside down…“I would hope that we can all cooperate and band together to make sure Cash gets the justice he deserves.”Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. Anything with cheese sauce

Mmm. cheese sauce. Not quite liquid, not quite solid, but 100 percent delicious. Who cares if it can't even be classified as real cheese? Who cares if it contains over 20 ingredients? We're willing to overlook a lot when it comes to cheese sauce, but these Wendy's insiders who spilled the tea on Reddit have us questioning our next order of Baconator fries.

According to one Redditor, the cheese sauce topping your baked potato might be a lot less cheesy than you'd hoped for, thanks to shady food prep practices. They warned, ". watch out for the liquid cheese. Some managers will make the crew pour boiling water from the coffee maker into it when it's almost out to 'make more.'"

Others cautioned that it is usually "lumpy" or has a "nasty skin" over the top, and honestly, if there's one thing cheese sauce is supposed to be it's smooth. That's not asking too much, is it?

The Epicurious Blog

Editor in chief Tanya Wenman Steel appeared on Fox & Friends yesterday, overseeing a coffee taste test. She wasn&apost nosing the very finest beans from Africa. Or rounding up fair trade, organic, shade-grown, or bird-friendly coffees. She and the joke-cracking TV cast sampled Dunkin&apos Donuts, McDonald&aposs, and Starbucks. And you won&apost believe who won. Watch the clip below. Or check out our in-house Epicurious taste tests, including ones focusing on ketchup, frozen pizza, chicken soup, and more.

Trader Joe&aposs fair trade certified, USDA organic Breakfast Blend! Spend 5 mins in the kitchen in the morning and get the best, cheapest coffee.

Wow CHEFRUBEO, wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

I personally can taste the misery left behind from a lack of social conscious harvesting that rapes both the land and the people who grow the coffee. It&aposs a bitter and truly sad flavor which far exceeds the chewing we get from disappointed internet posters.

Really want an in depth analysis? The best coffee I&aposve ever had was a cup of drip from a Starbucks in Seattle Center when visiting the city. It was late night and I was tired so couldn&apost finish it but it tasted just as good, if not better, cold the next morning. That became my standard. However, the Starbucks I&aposve had in Toronto, Detroit and Vegas was wimpy and sad. Even extra shots doesn&apost save it.

The best coffee is usually done by independents who actually care about their product from soil to last sip.

I also am highly unlikely to get a mocha rather than just a straight up cup of coffee or Americano. No milk, no cream (let alone whipped), no flavors. But on that note, chocolate is another issue much like coffee that benefits (everyone involved not just the consumer and greedy companies) from fair trade practices as well as organic and bird-friendly natural shade growing.

As to the "Support Our Troops" claim, I certainly don&apost know anything about that other than it sounds like a smear job based on nationalistic patriotism which can be used to diss on any company as was illustrated with the underhanded Wal-Mart tactics against Target.

I really do not think there is anyone or any entity who doesn&apost support our troops regardless of the politics of the actions the troops have been thrust into.

dd&aposs coffee is better for the price starbucks can suck my ass - F them!! 5$ for a cup of coffee is obscene they areall gold digging whores

Dunkin&apos Donuts gets my vote but McDonalds has made a 100% turn around and is practically a tie.
As for Cake or Death&aposs least offensive company, Starbucks refuses to support our troops by setting up stores on bases.

I have been drinking coffe for the last 52 years and I can&apost stand Starbucks. the stuff tastes burnt. I have never understood it&aposs appeal. Never! So regardless of how &aposearth&apos friendly the company is their coffe is awful. Folger&aposs French Roast in a Malita coffee vessel will remain my coffee of choice and oh yes. I prefer McDonalds when I need something on the road so to speak.

I really can&apost believe what I am reading. The question is about the taste of the coffee, not your politics. Can&apost you answer this simple question? Which coffee taste the best. I personally, do not buy pre made coffee. I grind my own daily, so I can&apost answer this question. I was looking for some real educated answers here & all I received is the same old political junk. I expected more from this group. Sad people!

I have tried all three and am bit of a coffee snob.
Dunkin donuts coffee is bitter, not smooth at all.
It is definetly not worth the price at the store.
McDonalds is better, and it is less expensive than Starbucks, and they are generous with their coupons in the paper.
Starbucks is the best by far, it&aposs the smoothest, most mellow, aromatic coffee. If you smell a coffee and it smells harsh, it is harsh. You never get this with Starbucks. I mix with decaf and can&apost even tell the difference

I like Starbucks, but am partial to Seattle&aposs Best when going to my first choice coffee flavor. I love Dunkin&apos Donuts and whenever possible will grab a big cup of plain coffee and two french cruellers with chocolate frosting.

We drink Kirkland&aposs Brand Colombian coffee at home and it rocks us well enough to keep buying it. Good first sip and always satisfied at the end of the cup.

I don&apost drink coffee, but Caribou has the best hot chocolate hands down.

Great test. Starbucks is over-hyped and I think their new Pike Place is not worth the money. I have had the DD and thinks it&aposs great, but have yet to try McD. Personally I go to a neighborhood coffeehouse where the java is superior to any I&aposve tried.

You may want to do a little research before you go bashing McDonald&aposs. McDonald&aposs Corporation does offer benefits to its part time employees in the stores it owns as well as its full time staff and real opportunities for advancement. What an individual private owner decides to offer his or her employees is their choice, like any small business owner.
I also think McDonald&aposs coffee happens to taste better.

I prefer my own home brewed fair traded organic coffee ..with travelmug in hand I&aposm out the door and off to work!

When the dust settles I have no fear that the little Seattle based company that started it all, and kept it going (the flavor,) will be hands down the winner. Aaaaahhhhh.

If this is Epicurious, why is there a contest between behemoths in the misery coffee market?

Isn&apost this a bit like hosting a beauty contest between Joan Rivers and Courtney Love?

Can&apost stand Dunkin&apos Donuts, never tried McDonalds, and Starbucks is overpriced!

Epicurious on the Fox Network. That&aposs bad enough as it is - never mind the coffee. Tsk tsk, Tanya. cheers, Bonnie

Dunkin Donuts is BY FAR the superior coffee. Without a doubt!

I would add the caveat that on Fox we were tasting mocha lattes, not plain lattes and that if we did this test on Epi, we would do the straight up lattes side by side.

The result is fascinating. Starbucks coffee is better now than it was before its mass re-training of staff. But I&aposll have to give McD and DunkinD a try. For atmosphere, Starbucks wins, of course, but if you&aposre getting your coffee to go, who cares about that?

McDonalds is rolling out a line of espresso-based drinks to all of its 14,000 US locations, which analysts predict will steal customers from Starbucks. What concerns me is not taste, but rather how much caffeine will be in these espresso-based drinks. The reasons for concern is that a huge number of people are calling poison centers and showing up at hospital emergency centers because of "caffeine intoxication." Most people have no idea just how much caffeine they consume daily because caffeine is in EVERYTHING -- energy drinks, vitamin water, cold medicine, candy bars and even chewing gum and potato chips!

Ethic Soup has some excellent articles on caffeine and its health risks at:

While the ultra liberal socially conscious are choosing the &aposleast offensive&apos or &aposmost responsible&apos coffee company, the point here is nothing about social responsibility. The only issue in the topic is which TASTES best. For taste = starbuck, convenience and price = timmy ho&aposs. McD&aposs coffee always seems to have a burned taste to it.

I really hope some readers do their own BLIND taste tests somehow. Would be curious to see what the results are, regardless of what you expect.

I like Starbucks, the coffee is so much better. The Pike Place Blend is my favorite. Plus Starbucks tends to hire better people who are actually friendly and get your order right most of the time. Its worth a few extra dimes!
Life is too short.

For me, it is BOTH politics and taste. Starbuck&aposs Gold Coast is my gold standard.

While we&aposd like to think that everyone considers politics before they shop for a brand, we know that this isn&apost always the case. The producers of the show, no doubt, were interested in seeing if coffee from fast-food chain restaurants could possibly hold up against coffee from a renowned coffee purveyor. A year or two ago no one would have imagined it possible. It signals a larger cultural shift. Coffee flavor matters. You can&apost sell crappy stuff anymore. And even folks famous for selling mass-market donuts and burgers can convince consumers that they might be able to make a decent cup of Joe. Are Greek diners or pizza joints next? But if politics guide your shopping decisions (and kudos to you), none of this matters.

i&aposve never bought anything from any of these companies- but I, too, would have to choose Starbucks, as obnoxious as that is, because at least they&aposve been somewhat forced to social/environmental accountability.

I agree with picking starbucks. It&aposs a rich bold coffee. And starbucks at least has environmental ethics as well as providing benefits for their part time employees.

Well, if those are my choices I&aposd choose Starbucks over them all as the least offensive company. My world matters more than anything else.

Restaurant Cheap Shortcuts

Many fast food and causal restaurants use a butter substitute product called “Phase Oil”. You may have never heard of this substance, but I can almost guarantee you have eaten it. My husband first introduced it to me, when he said his cook at his fraternity house used it to cook all of their meals. (College kids, listen up!). Needless to say it was horrifying finding this out after looking up the ingredients.

Ingredients in Phase Oil: Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Salt, Soy Lecithin , Natural and Artificial Flavor , Beta Carotene, TBHQ , Citric Acid, Dimethylpolysiloxane

When I saw “Phase Oil” on this list of ingredients Dominos uses, I called them up to ask why. The headquarters wouldn’t tell me and asked me to leave an inquiry. I ain’t got time for that, so I went straight to the source and visited a local Dominos to ask. I found out Dominos uses Phase Oil in their Cheesy Bread Sticks, instead of real butter – yum!

It’s important to note, most restaurants don’t use this to intentionally harm us, they use it to cut costs. And this point hits the nail on the head. Using dimethylpolysiloxane is another cheap industry ingredient to make big profits for the food industry and does nothing to keep our health in check (especially with formaldehyde as a potential preservative!).

How many more people have to die from disease and how much more are we going to pay as a nation for health care until the FDA wakes up and starts regulating our food?

Don’t let the food industry trick you with this rubbery substance. Next time you see your family or friends eating and drinking the popular products discussed in this post and video – ask them:
